Dua Kelinci Indonesia Heads the Ball – Jakarta 2014
In the month which saw the opening whistle of the world’s biggest football tournament, almost 20,000 Friends of Dua Kelinci from all over Indonesia flocked to Jakarta to join in this year’s Dua Kelinci Indonesia Heads the Ball extravaganza at the national monument Monas.
As in Medan on May 04 and Bandung on May 18, the gathering kicked off with a 5 km fun run around the center of the capital, before the Friends of Dua Kelinci congregated at the Games Corner. There was also fierce competition to take “selfie” photographs with their favorite Real Madrid stars in front of the photo wall.
For young soccer fans, the highlight of Dua Kelinci Indonesia Heads the Ball was a personal appearance by the Real Madrid midfielder Gareth Bale, who took part in a meet and greet with fans before kicking a ball into the crowd from the stage as did Luis Figo and Xabi Alonso before him in 2011 and 2012. Bale told reporters he was impressed by the atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the Friends of Dua Kelinci, and said he hoped to meet some great Indonesian footballers in the not-too-distant future.
At the climax of the event one lucky fan won the door prize of a brand new motorbike, and the crowd was treated to a stunning performance from top local band NAIF. But this was not the end of Dua Kelinci Indonesia Heads the Ball, which will head to the Karebosi Square in Makassar for its final leg on June 15.
